After stumbling around looking for something to inspire me I have finally settled on an idea. The spark came from a tutorial when I told Graham I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and he asked “What were the recurring thoughts through out your summer?”
The honest answer is not much – I’ve spent most of my summer exploring the links between Scotland and China for my dissertation and when I wasn’t doing that, I was off exploring the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. And then it hit me…
I’m passionate about Scotland and my island heritage and I’ve always wondered how this might inspire my work some day. Not to mention the fact that the big question through out my dissertation is “What opportunities does China’s rise present the creative industries in the west?”. One of the opportunities I have identified is the Chinese appetite for premium, luxury goods and Scotland has plenty; be it food and drink, textile or whatever – there is scope for designers to create products and services that bring these luxuries to the far east.
With that in mind, I’ve narrowed down to two ideas:
