Copy Cats

China is well known for not respecting intellectual property. Then again, most people don’t actually know how to protect their work. Nevertheless, the Chinese continue to make copycat products from fake iPhones to fake Louis Vuitton bags. They even copy movie posters! And to what point? Copy cat products don’t make money in the long term.

What’s most baffling is that most of these fake products actually work. It’s not easy to design a working OS for a smartphone. The fact that they can actually pull off work of that standard shows a level of innovation and ingenuity. It makes sense for them to channel this energy into developing their own ideas. But this can’t happen without respecting intellectual property and until the government puts this into law, the creative industries won’t show.
